R.I.P., Mary Reinke
Mary J. Reinke (Nov. 20, 1921–Feb. 17, 2015) was born in The Dalles to John and Josephine Re. Mary joined Honeywood Winery in 1943 as a secretary, becoming the office manager in 1947, president in 1963, then purchasing the winery in 1964, and selling it in 1974.
In 1948, Mary married Donald Reinke, the first deputy fire chief of Salem Fire Department. He died in 2012.
Among other accomplishments, she pushed through legislation for wine tasting and wine tasting rooms, was known for her entertaining and truly loved Christmas. She was a charter and sustaining member of The Assistance League of Salem.
Mary was preceded in death by her sisters, Dena A. Sanders and Gloria Nelson. She is survived by several nieces and nephews along with their families.
Argyle’s New Look
Argyle Winery’s barrel room and cellars are being converted into a new wine hospitality center and tasting room expected to open to visitors in the summer of 2015.
Located in the heart of Dundee, the new Argyle tasting room will offer a contemporary atmosphere for visitors. The design by SERA Architects incorporates an innovative new space with the historic buildings currently onsite, framing both indoor and outdoor opportunities for appreciating Argyle wines.
Stoller Expands
Stoller Family Estate, home to the largest contiguous vineyard in the Dundee Hills AVA, is planning a second winemaking facility. It will be located on the 373-acre estate, and construction is scheduled to begin later this spring.
On March 9, Stoller started construction on a project to transform the property’s original tasting room. The new Legacy Room will become a private tasting room for club members.
Passport to Gorge
Throughout the month of April, the Columbia Gorge wine region will celebrate its world of wines with its annual passport event featuring exclusive experiences and discounts at 24 different wineries. Passports are $25 each.
On April 10, the celebration heads west to Portland for its annual urban tasting, this year hosted at Castaway Portland, 1900 N.W. 18th Ave. Tickets for this event are $35 each (includes a passport — a $50 value) or $25 without a passport.

Flavors Revised
This year’s Flavors of Carlton, on April 18, will feature a slightly different format.
As in years’ past, the evening will be hosted at Ken Wright Cellars, beginning inside the barrel room, where guests can bid in the silent auction, as well as enjoy hors d’oeuvres, local wine and craft beer. The event’s transformation happens under a big tent, where 10 top chefs from the region will present small plates paired with wines from 20 local wineries. A high-energy live auction follows with chances to bid on rare and distinctive wines, art, travel packages and more.
Flavors of Carlton is the major fundraiser for Yamhill Carlton Together Cares (formerly known as Carlton Together Cares), a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization that develops programs for youth and families in the Yamhill-Carlton area.
