The Wine Taster's Toolbox: Exploring Fundamental Wine Components
As one of the founders in the Oregon wine industry, we know that wine has greatly evolved in the Willamette valley during the past forty years. Knowledge of varietals, soil type, and terroir are only a few of the aspects that make for a well rounded wine, as well as a wine connoisseur.
We are pleased to offer a 3-part series of classes this winter lead by The Wine & Spirits Archive that will help demystify the wine tasting experience and give attendees a more in-depth look at wine from grape to table. These fun and educational classes will be held in the Durant Vineyards Tasting Room, limited to 20 attendees per class, and will include a collection of current releases along with select library wines.
This workshop will tease apart the various components that define a wine: sweetness, acidity, tannin, body and alcohol as attendees taste and discuss the impact of these elements on the palate and how to distinguish and describe them. Guests will also fine tune their noses and identify key aromas and flavors such as fruit, earth, oak, butter, grass and floral elements.
The Wine Education Series includes the following classes:
The Wine Taster's Toolbox: Exploring Wine Fundamentals
Saturday, January 19th
Tasting Terroir: Moving Beyond the Grape
Saturday, February 23
It's a Match!: Food and Wine Pairing
Saturday, March 16
Reservations are required and can be made by calling the Durant Vineyards Tasting Room at 503.864.2000 or email info@durantvineyards.com. If signing up for an individual session, please be sure to mention the name and date of the class.
Fee: $135 for series or $50 per session
